Losses from pollution reached 27 thousand hryvnias

In Odesa region, the chief engineer of a private enterprise that produces grape wines will be tried for contaminating the company's neighboring land plot with waste in the Kulevchanska community.

He granted permission to dump waste on this land plot of more than two hectares, which led to its contamination with harmful substances, the press service of the National Police in Odesa region reports.

It is noted that the engineer faces a fine of 17 to 68 thousand hryvnias or deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for three years. The damage from the pollution amounted to UAH 27 thousand.

The press service said that the violation was discovered by environmental inspectors. The police opened criminal proceedings on the grounds of Part 1 of Article 239 (pollution or damage to land) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and ordered a number of examinations.

The report emphasized that the suspect was responsible for organizing the disposal of industrial waste at the enterprise.

"Under the procedural guidance of the Belgorod-Dniester District Prosecutor's Office, we charged the defendant with polluting land with waste harmful to the environment as a result of violating special rules, if this created a danger to the environment. The pre-trial investigation has now been completed, and the indictment has already been sent to court," commented Pavlo Bobchynskyi, head of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi District Police Department.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, in Odesa region, employees of the State Bureau of Investigation brought to court the case of the head of one of the branches of the state enterprise "Forests of Ukraine", who organized the illegal felling of more than 1500 trees in the territory of the national natural park. The damage caused by the destruction of the trees amounted to UAH 145 million.
