This will help create infrastructure for the production of organic fertilizers and fuel

Lutsk Mayor Ihor Polishchuk and representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have signed an agreement to prepare for loan financing for the construction of a waste processing complex.

This will allow preparations to begin for the loan, including collecting the necessary documents, developing a feasibility study for the project, etc.

"The construction of a solid waste processing plant is extremely important for our community," he said.

Polishchuk emphasized that the waste processing plant will allow:

  • will several times reduce the volume of garbage disposal at the current landfill in the village of Bryshche;
  • to significantly reduce emissions of carbon dioxide and other harmful substances into the air, as well as to reduce land and water pollution;
  • create infrastructure for the production of organic fertilizers and fuel.

He added that the Lutsk community has been cooperating with the EBRD since 2012. During this time, it was possible to modernize the city heat supply system for €14.4 million, of which €4.4 million is a grant component.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that a sorting line at the landfill in the village of Zabrude will be built in Kiverka, Volyn, where organic and solid municipal waste, as well as tires, will be processed.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, Ruslan Strilets, stated that, according to the Ministry of Environment's estimates, €4 billion is needed to implement 200 projects for the treatment of various types of waste throughout the country.
