The nitrate content in the water exceeded the permissible limits by 2.5 times

In Donetsk region, the utility company Slovmiskvodokanal has been awarded almost UAH 1.4 million by a court decision for polluting the Kazennyi Torets River with sewage.

The company ignored the order of the State Ecological Inspectorate to eliminate the deficiencies and compensate for damages on a voluntary basis, the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office reports.

It is noted that from August 2019 to September 2020, the Slavic water utility operated a fish protection device at the Mayaki water intake without the use of measuring equipment. Wastewater from the enterprise polluted the river, which is a source of drinking water in the region.

Laboratory analysis revealed the following exceedances of pollutants in the water:

  • of ammonium nitrogen, phosphates and oil products – exceeding the maximum allowable indicators by 1.3 times;
  • of nitrates – 2.5 times.

In the message, it was said that the prosecutors applied to the court for forced compensation of damages.

"Currently, the entire amount of owed funds has been transferred to the state's account," the press service emphasized.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that the court ordered the Konotop Waterworks (KP VUVKG of Konotop) to compensate more than 1.8 million hryvnias for pollution of the river Yezuch with untreated sewage.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the economic court of the Ternopil region ordered the municipal enterprise of Kremenets "Miskvodhosp" to pay more than 960 thousand hryvnias for the pollution of the Ikva river.
