DTEK connected more than 1,100 new green power plants per year

The largest number of capacities was connected in the Odesa region – 65.9 MW

Since the beginning of 2023, DTEK Grids has connected 1,150 solar and wind power plants with a total capacity of 112.3 MW to the grid.

This helped to partially decentralize and improve the efficiency of the power system and increased its resilience during the difficult winter, DTEK reports.

The press service explained that the Russian terrorist attacks on the Ukrainian grid in 2022-2023 increased the importance of small autonomous renewable energy facilities.

"Each new connected facility of green generation is a contribution to the passing of a difficult winter and the transformation of the Ukrainian energy industry in the near future," the message emphasized.

Oleksandr Fomenko, General Director of DTEK Networks, noted that the government's plan for the transformation of the Ukrainian energy industry by 2050 foresees a significant increase in the capacities of solar and wind power plants. Thousands of Ukrainian businesses and families are installing solar panels and windmills for their own needs, and networks must be ready for increased load.

"The infrastructure of power grids should ensure the integration of sources of renewable electricity, create conditions for the development of prosumers. This significantly changes the role of electrical networks. Their infrastructure needs major modernization and continuous improvement. This is the way the world is going, and the operators of the distribution system "DTEK Network" are going this way in Ukraine, he said.

It is noted that in 2023 the company connected 16,136 green generation facilities with a total capacity of 1,896.3 MW in the leading regions, namely:

  • in the Odesa region – 236 SPPs and the increased capacity of previously built wind generation, a total of 65.9 MW were connected during the year;
  • in the Dnipropetrovsk region – 298 SPPs for 32.4 MW;
  • in the Kyiv region — 539 SPPs with a total capacity of 12.3 MW;
  • in the Donetsk region – 43 SPPs and one wind station with a total capacity of 1.2 MW;
  • in Kyiv – 33 SPPs for 0.4 MW.

"This capacity is enough to supply electricity to the capital of Ukraine and the entire Kyiv region," DTEK's press service emphasized.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that DTEK and Danish wind giant Vestas have agreed to build the second stage of the Tiligul wind farm, which will increase its capacity to 500 MW, or 384 MW. The first stage of the Tiligul wind farm was launched in May.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Vinnytsia, enterprises have installed more than 10 MW of solar power plants for their own needs, which provided green energy for about 10% of consumption.
