In 2023, Kyiv residents handed over 19,500 mercury-containing energy-saving and fluorescent lamps for recycling.

People brought such waste to special containers for hazardous waste generated in the home, according to the utility company Kyivkomunservice on Facebook.

It is noted that the collected lamps were handed over for disposal to a specialized enterprise, UKREKOPROM LLC, in Odesa.

The message urged Kyiv residents not to throw away such used lamps and undamaged mercury thermometers in a common container. They should be put in packaging or wrapped in paper and taken to one of the special containers. Spent batteries are also collected in such containers.

The nearest container can be found on a special map.

"We thank all Kyiv residents who understand the importance of separate collection of hazardous waste and UkrEkoProm for their professionalism and fruitful cooperation," the message emphasized.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that  until February 1, the pilot project "Dispose of medicines – save the planet" will continue in Kyiv, within the framework of which people will be able to hand over expired medicines for disposal for free.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in January 2023, in Kyiv, residents and guests of the city submitted for recycling 1524 kg of used batteries, 177 undamaged mercury thermometers, 2988 energy-saving lamps.
