In Kyiv, in January 2023, residents and guests of the city handed over 1,524 kg of used batteries, 177 undamaged mercury thermometers, and 2,988 energy-saving lamps for recycling.

Such waste can be placed in one of 200 special orange containers and the nearest one can be found using an online map, according to the Telegram channel of the Kyiv City State Administration.

As you know, such waste is classified as "hazardous" and cannot be thrown into the regular trash.

The message emphasized that over time they will end up in landfills, where under the influence of natural factors they will quickly break down, and the toxic substances contained in them will enter the soil and water.

However, batteries, lamps and thermometers are subject to safe disposal and become a valuable source of manganese, zinc, graphite, mercury, etc.

The container map is also available at the link.

Working containers are marked in red on the map, and containers damaged by vandals are marked in yellow.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in January 2023, Kyiv residents submitted 4,000 Christmas trees and pine trees for recycling. Darnytskyi and Solomyanskyi became the leader districts in the disposal of holiday trees.

As  previously reported, residents and guests of Odesa were urged to hand over used batteries to "proven" chains of supermarkets and gas stations, where animals and the hologram "Guaranteed recycling" are displayed on the collection containers.
