Kharkiv environmental activist Iryna Kravchenko accused the State Ecological Inspectorate of ignoring its responsibilities by refusing to inspect the condition of trees.
On the central Sumy Street, trees were "walled up" in concrete, which will eventually lead to their death, Kravchenko wrote on her Facebook page.
She emphasized that the rules for maintaining green spaces stipulate that:
- the size of the pit near the trunk should be at least 2x2 m on asphalted streets and with other surfaces (1.5x1.5 m – in areas with old buildings);
- the distance between the tree trunk and other structures should be at least 5 meters.
Kravchenko said that she turned to the State Inspectorate with a request to conduct an inspection of this case and take measures. The department explained that inspections are not carried out during martial law.
The eco-activist emphasized that the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers stipulates that scheduled and unscheduled inspections are not carried out during martial law. However, they have be carried out when there is a threat of negative impact on the natural environment.
" It turns out, the inspectorate believes that walling trees in a concrete box does not threaten to have a negative impact on them, and therefore point 2 is not applicable? Or is she simply misleading by reporting that all inspections are allegedly prohibited during martial law?" Kravchenko wrote.
She added that she filed a complaint with the eco-inspection about this answer and again asked to check compliance with environmental legislation.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Kharkiv eco-inspectors imposed a fine on the person in charge of the communal enterprise "Blagoustrii" for crowning trees, that is, pruning "under the trunk", on Kashirska Street.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, Kharkiv eco-activist Artem Prykhodko expressed his concern to the director of KP "Kharkivzelenbud" regarding the cutting of trees under the trunk. He also appealed to the mayor of Kharkiv, Igor Terekhov, with demands to stop the barbaric crowning of trees in the city.
