In Poltava's Yar neighborhood, one of the city's main sewage collectors collapsed, resulting in a 200-meter-long sinkhole with sewage.
It will take at least six months to repair the emergency section, provided that the Poltavavodokanal utility has the money, but currently there is no such funding, Suspilne reports.
"An emergency team was urgently called, which excavated this section of the failure and started the collector in order to divert the sewage. We had to send two excavators there, which pulled each other in order to dig a trench and start the collector," said the head of the service of sewers "Poltavavodokanal" Ivan Mystyuk.
It is noted that due to landslides at the site of the sinkhole, an electrical pole connecting high-voltage lines fell. Because of this, local residents did not have electricity for a day.
"This collector serves most of the micro-district. It is already old, it was all broken a long time ago," said local resident Lidia Pomaranska.
Mistiuk emphasized that the first failure on the three-kilometer collector occurred in 1998. Since then, similar accidents have occurred seven times.
He explained that the collector was built in 1966, and the warranty period for reinforced concrete is 25 years. In 2016, the company began to relay the collector at its own expense and has already repaired 1,600 meters. The emergency section is 1 km long, and its repair will take at least six months, provided there is money, but the necessary funding is currently unavailable.
Mr. Mistiuk added that 42 large-diameter collectors have been discovered in the city so far.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Poltava region in July, an emergency of a man-made nature occurred, namely pollution of the Psel River with pig feces. In the river, in the area of pollution about 35 km away, there was a mass plague of fish, and the trees on the banks began to dry up.
