Four communities of Kyiv region entered the TOP-10 cities with the most polluted air

The highest excess of nitrogen dioxide content was found in Bila Tserkva – 2.9 MPC and Kyiv – 2.6 MPC

Four cities in the Kyiv region, namely Bila Tserkva, Kyiv, Ukrainka, and Brovary, were included in the TOP 10 cities in Ukraine with exceeding maximum permissible concentrations of nitrogen dioxide in the first half of 2023.

In addition, the average content of sulfur dioxide (1.5), phenol (1.2), and nitrogen oxide (1.2) exceeded the MPC in Kyiv, according to a review of environmental pollution by the Borys Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory.

It is noted that the experts studied the air quality in 33 cities of Ukraine. They found 22 pollutants in the air, including eight heavy metals.

The largest average exceedance of the MPC was for nitrogen dioxide:

  1. Bila Tserkva – 2.9;
  2. Kyiv – 2.6;
  3. Zhytomyr – 2.5;
  4. Chernihiv – 2.1;
  5. Kamianske – 2.1;
  6. Ukrainian woman – 2.1;
  7. Amounts – 2.0;
  8. Lutsk – 1.9;
  9. Breweries – 1.8;
  10. Vinnytsia – 1.7.

The largest average exceedances of MPC by phenol content:

  • Lutsk – 2.1;
  • Zaporozhye – 1.7;
  • Kamianske – 1.6;
  • Kyiv – 1.2;
  • Odesa 1,1.

The largest average exceedances of MPC by formaldehyde content:

  • Mykolaiv – 4.6;
  • Dnipro – 3.8;
  • Odesa – 3.4;
  • Kremenchuk – 3.2;
  • Lviv – 3.0;
  • Kamianske – 3.0;
  • Kryvyi Rih – 2.6;
  • Cherkasy – 2.3.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, in the first half of 2023 in 9 cities of Ukraine, namely in Dnipro, Kamiansk, Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Lviv, Zaporizhzhia and Lutsk, a high ​​level was found air pollution.
