White-billed loons are rare birds for Ukraine

In the Poltava region, water police officers rescued a bird, probably a white-billed loon, which had become entangled in a poacher's net.

The bird was found at the Kremenchutsky Reservoir in the water area of the Sulynsky Reserve, the National Police of Ukraine reports on Facebook.

The loon got its paws tangled in the nets and could not get out on its own. When the police swam to her, the bird began to scream loudly.

A water police officer tried to untangle the nets by hand, but was unsuccessful. So he cut the net and freed the loon.

The bird was released on the pond and in a few seconds it took off.

"Thank the water police," the rescuer joked when the bird was free.

White-billed loons are not typical birds of Ukraine, but rare and precious. Earlier, he was spotted in the Ternopil region. This is the largest loon bird.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in October in the Mykolaiv region in the Buzka estuary two dolphins were spotted, probably a mother and a cub.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, a Kyiv resident set up a bird feeder with lard on his balcony near the Start stadium, which helped survive a pair of red-billed white-backed woodpeckers and their chicks. Usually these birds live in ancient forests and do not survive in the city, but thanks to the care of the townspeople, they were able not only to survive, but also to raise young.
