In the Black Sea, fishermen began to catch the invasive dark, or Korean, perch more and more often.

Fish intensively reproduces and spreads, which may pose a threat to local species, the State Environmental Inspection of the Southwest District reports on Facebook.

It is noted that for the first time dark perch was recorded near the coast of Crimea in 2013. The homeland of this type of fish is the Far Eastern seas. This perch belongs to large predatory fish species, it feeds mainly on small fish and crustaceans. The weight of the perch reaches 4 kg, and the length is more than 60 cm.

"Given the fact that cases of this predator getting caught in the fishing gear of many Black Sea countries have become more frequent, it has adapted well in the Black Sea," the press service explained.

In nature, each species has its own ecological niche and is perfectly adapted to the conditions of its native ecosystem, where it lives in harmony with others. However, everything changes when invasive species enter the ecosystem. They have no natural enemies, and local animals are often unable to hunt them or defend themselves against them. Such species spread especially actively in damaged ecosystems.
