In Vinnytsia, 9 tons died in a tank for growing sturgeon due to pollution of the Southern Bug River red book fish.

This destroyed the only unique herd of breeding Azov sturgeon, reports the Ukrainian Caviar Berry caviar production company on Facebook.

It is noted that the discharge into the river led to the instant death of beluga, Lena and Azov sturgeon, as well as bester – a beluga hybrid.

"We cannot stop water pollution in the South Bug River. The huge tank on the river, in which our sturgeon grew, now looks like a drain pit", Ukrainian Caviar Berry said.

They added that the nature protection prosecutor's office opened a case on this fact, and the investigation is ongoing.

The company said that sturgeons live for more than a hundred years and the next generations would receive the best "harvest" of caviar. After all, fish are not killed at the enterprise, but caviar is extracted by the milking method.

Earlier, Ecopolitic wrote, that in Khmelnytskyi region in September, an excess of the maximum permissible concentration of nitrite nitrogen by 48 times and ammonium nitrogen by 30.3 times was found in the South Bug River.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in March 2022, in Kherson Oblast, the occupiers destroyed the Rybatsky Khutir eco-homestead in Shilova Balka and shot pregnant sturgeon females.
