Air quality has deteriorated sharply in Kyiv

Katerina Belousova

Such pollution occurs as a result of fires and industrial emissions

In Kyiv on the morning of Tuesday, September 26, in the Voskresenka microdistrict, on the Left Bank in Dnipro district in the air, the concentration of suspended particles (dust) PM2.5 reached 99, and PM10 exceeded 100.

This air quality index AQI shows that its condition is dangerous for all people, says the "Kyiv Digital" application in the section on air quality monitoring.

With such air pollution, negative consequences can be felt by everyone, and for people from vulnerable groups, they can be more serious. Therefore, residents of the district are advised to:

  • close the windows;
  • don't go outside.

The appendix explained that this type of dust is generated as a result of fires and industrial emissions.

It is worth noting that in other districts of Kyiv the air condition is characterized as "good", and in the vicinity of the metro stations "Teremky", "Vokzalna" and "Palats "Ukraine" – "satisfactory".

As you know, PM particles are very small (between 2.5 and 10 microns). Therefore, they can get into the blood and lungs and cause serious diseases, including cancer.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Kyiv on September 12 in the Vygurivshchyna and Voskresenka microdistricts on the Left Bank, the concentration of PM2.5 and PM10 dust in the air exceeded 100.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, according to the WHO, 99% of the world's population breathes air that does not meet quality standards, causing up to 7 million deaths every year due to problems with breathing and blood flow.
