Air quality has sharply deteriorated to a dangerous level in Kyiv

Katerina Belousova

At this level of air pollution, all people can experience negative consequences

In Kyiv on the morning of Tuesday, September 12, in the neighborhoods In Vygurivshchyna and Voskresenka on the Left Bank, the concentration of suspended particles (dust) PM2.5 and PM10 in the air exceeded 100.

This air quality index AQI shows that its condition is unhealthy for all people, says the "Kyiv Digital" application in the section on air quality monitoring.

With such air pollution, the negative consequences can be felt by everyone, and for people from vulnerable groups, they can be more serious. With such an AQI index, you should abandon:

  • ventilation of the room;
  • physical activity on the street, especially for children, the elderly and people with health problems.

As you know, PM particles are very small (2.5 and 10 microns). Therefore, they can get into the blood and lungs and cause serious diseases, including cancer.

In other parts of the city, air quality is characterized as good or satisfactory.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that eco-activists have prepared TOP-5 tips on how to protect yourself from the negative effects of inhalation of polluted air PM2.5 solid particles.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, a study by the European Environment Agency showed that on the continent at least 1,200 children die every year from the effects of breathing in polluted air.
