The company plans to produce 14,000 tons of liquefied biomethane per year

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) from the World Bank Group plans to provide the Vinnytsia Poultry Factory with a loan of up to $30 million for the modernization and expansion of the plant's capacity to produce biomethane from agricultural waste.

The project will serve as a demonstration of the viability of liquefied biomethane production, reports Mind.ua.

The material said that construction is planned at the largest biogas plant in Ukraine with a capacity of 12 MW, located in the village of Vasylivka (Gaysynsky district, Vinnytsia region).

It is noted that in this project, IFC can resume cooperation with MHP agricultural holding, the largest chicken producer in the country. If approved by the board of directors, this will be the corporation's sixth investment in MHP.

The article emphasized that the company already operates two biogas plants for processing manure from its farms into green energy. As part of the decarbonization strategy, MHP plans to increase biomethane production in Ukraine by modernizing and expanding the capacity of its biogas plants in several stages. The first stage, which will be financed under the project, will be a demonstration stage.

"At the first stage of the project, it is planned to modernize the existing capacities in order to obtain 14 thousand tons of liquefied biomethane per year, and at the second stage – to expand the capacities to 20.5 MW," the material says.

It is noted that the total cost of the project reaches $52 million. In addition to the IFC loan, the MHP also relies on its own funds and the support of the European Fund for Sustainable Development Plus, Great Britain and other donors.

Mind.ua added that the board of directors of the corporation plans to consider the project at a meeting on September 19, 2023.

We remind you that the Ukrainian biotechnology company "MHP Eco Energy" received the international award "AD&Biogas Industry Award 2022", its biogas complex was recognized as one of the best in the world in the "AD Circular Solution" category.

Earlier, EcoPolitics analyzed prospects of biogas in achieving energy independence and improving the state of the environment.
