The new sanctuaries are located in the floodplain of the Vita stream and untouched forests

The Kyiv City Council supported the announcement of the botanical attraction "Flood of Orchids" and the zoological attraction "Ground of Predatory Birds" in the Holosiivskyi district.

The new facilities will protect the habitats of a rare species of orchids and 25 endangered bird species, Ksenia Semenova, deputy of the Kyiv City Council, reports in Telegram.

She said that the creation of the reserve was initiated by activists of the Kyiv Ecological and Cultural Center. They also helped develop the decision on its creation and profile documents.

Semenova explained that the territory of the "Orchid Floodplain" will cover the floodplain of the Vita stream – practically the only floodplain of a small river within Kyiv. And the "Ground of Predatory Birds" will be located in forests untouched by felling on an area of 105.1 hectares. The territories of both objects will be adjacent to each other.

It is noted that these protected objects will be taken under the protection and preservation of the National University of Bioresources by the Boyar Forest Research Station.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that the Commercial Court of the Kyiv region returned to the state ownership of 9.5 hectares of forest on the banks of the Dnipro in the Boryspil district, which were illegally owned by Oksana Marchenko, the wife of the leader of the banned party OPZZH Viktor Medvedchuk.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, ecologists expressed their fear that an entertainment complex and houses could be built in Kiev on Galerny Island instead of the "Orchid Forest" nature monument. Kyiv Council responded to accusations of fraud.
