Materials on environmental violations were handed over to the prosecutor's office and the police

In the Dnipro region, eco-inspectors calculated over 28.5 million hryvnias in damages due to soil contamination by waters of unknown origin in the town of Zhovti Vody, Kryvorizka district.

This is the most high-profile violation of environmental protection legislation during the week from May 12 to 18, the State Environmental Inspection reports on Facebook.

It is noted that during this period, eco-inspectors conducted 116 control measures and drew up 302 protocols on administrative offenses. They calculated 35.1 million hryvnias of environmental damage and presented claims for more than 4.7 million hryvnias.

The message said that the anti-leaders of the week also became:

  • the city of Chudniv in Zhytomyr Region, where 117 alder trees were cut down outside the village of Budychany, which caused 1.6 million hryvnias in damage;
  • the city of Svitlovodsk in the Kirovohrad region, where poachers fished for more than 858 thousand hryvnias;
  • Chortkivskyi district in Ternopil region, where 21 trees along the Buchach-Vozyliv-Snovid highway were damaged to the point of stopping growth, and 7 trees were damaged to the point of not stopping growth. This caused more than 874 thousand hryvnias in damages;
  • Radomyshl community of Zhytomyr region, where a mass plague of fish occurred. Damages amounted to almost 771 thousand hryvnias.

It is noted that materials on environmental violations were handed over to the prosecutor's office and the police.

In addition, eco-inspectors discovered illegal felling of trees in Transcarpathia. Thus, a claim for more than 1.3 million hryvnias was presented to the Mukachevo forestry farm.

They also found violations in the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve, including cutting down and damaging trees and traffic. A claim for the amount of more than 2.6 million hryvnias was presented.

The report emphasized that eco-inspectors imposed fines of 54 thousand hryvnias in one week. Violators of environmental protection legislation voluntarily and forcibly compensated about 1.5 million hryvnias of damages.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in February 2023, Dnipro Oblast won the anti-leadership of the week for the pollution of the Dnipro River by sewage for 3.5 million hryvnias.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the police in the Dnipropetrovsk region exposed a group of 5 people who cut down and sold wood worth almost 1.9 million hryvnias in the Novomoskovsk district.
