The Poltva River is polluted with synthetic surfactants, pesticides and heavy metals

In the Lviv region, the Basin Management of Water Resources of the Western Bug and Syan Rivers conducted surface water quality monitoring at 23 observation points of the Vistula River basin.

The worst water quality was found in 5 rivers, the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Lviv Regional State reports on Facebook.

It is noted that the analysis of water quality was carried out according to physico-chemical and chemical indicators, in particular, the content of:

  • organic and biogenic substances;
  • pesticides;
  • heavy metals;
  • polyaromatic and halogenated hydrocarbons;
  • alkylphenols;
  • trichlorobenzenes;
  • medicines

The message emphasized that the lowest water quality was found in:

  • the Poltva River – by the content of dissolved oxygen, organic, biogenic substances, SPAR (synthetic surface-active substances), halogenated hydrocarbons, heavy metals, pesticides, etc.;
  • the Zahidny Bug River below (the mouth of the Poltva River) – by the content of organic and biogenic substances;
  • the Maruntsia River below the town of Vinnyki – by the content of organic and biogenic substances;
  • the Svyna River below the town of Zhovkva – by the content of organic and biogenic substances;
  • Malekhivka River (Malekhiv village) – by the content of organic, biogenic substances and polyaromatic hydrocarbons.

The press service added that compared to February 2023:

the quality of water in the rivers has deteriorated

  • Poltvi (Kamyanopil village);
  • Maruntsi (Vynniki);
  • Bleh (the village of Hrushiv);
  • Western Bug (in the areas of the city of Sokal – the village of Litovezh and the city of Ustylug – the village of Zabuzhya).

the quality of water in the rivers has improved

  • Vyshni (city of Mostyska, village of Cherneve);
  • Rati (Mezhiryche village);
  • Vyar (the village of Podmostichi);
  • Malekhivtsi (Malekhiv village);
  • in the observation point "Zakhidnyi Bug River – Stariy Dobrotvir village".

It is noted that water quality monitoring in Lviv Oblast is conducted monthly and is an integral part of the state environmental monitoring system.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that tens of tons of oil products, namely transformer oil, got into the Dniester River in the Stryi District of Lviv region.

Previously, EcoPolitics conducted a unique study of surface water quality in 8 reservoirs and 11 pumping stations in Kyiv and the region. Exceeding the pollution standards was detected in 5 rivers and lakes, as well as in 1 pumping station.
