90% of expired products and packaging are recycled

The Ukrainian waste management company implements a project on the processing of expired dairy products and baby food with the company Danone Ukraine.

They send spoiled products to a biogas plant, and part of the packaging is sent to incineration with energy production, reports the Waste Management Center on Facebook.

It is noted that packaging waste is sorted and sent for processing in order to make new products from them. Materials that cannot be processed are transferred to safe incineration with the production of thermal and electrical energy.

The authors emphasized that 90% of products are recycled, and about 10% are incinerated.

"For more than 3 years, we have been helping to dispose of expired dairy products, as well as its residues, which are inevitably formed during the production process," they said.

The report emphasized that at the first stage of processing, milk residues are separated from packaging. Packaging suitable for further processing is cleaned of milk residues in special washing machines without special chemicals.

The authors explained that spoiled milk and waste from washing machines are collected in special containers and sent to the biogas plant. There, they turn into biogas through anaerobic decomposition.

Deep sorting of packaging waste is also carried out in the Center of Central Ukraine. Recyclable materials become raw materials for the manufacture of new goods.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Lviv the "Mebel-Service" company generates heat (capacity 8 MW) and electricity (capacity 2.2 MW) from its production waste at its own bio-thermal power plant. It provides itself and about 8 thousand families with energy.
