Improvements in air quality are associated with war

Kyiv took 26th place in the ranking of 30 major cities in the world with the best air quality indicators, according to the World Air Quality Report (IQAir).

In 2020, the city was among the top three anti-leaders, Nash Kyiv reports.

It is noted that in the IQAir rating, Kyiv was in the green zone between Madrid and Tokyo. The rating covers 116 cities of the world and is compiled every year.

The article explained that such progress in improved air quality was due to the war. After all, the number of motor vehicles and the intensity of work of enterprises have decreased.

"The position in the rating was no less influenced by the monitoring system itself. It was integrated into the IQAir service in October 2022, which, according to local authorities, had a positive effect on the objectivity of the formation of the air quality index," the article says.

IQAir also noted the air monitoring system in Kyiv, which is being developed despite the full-scale war.

It is noted that until 2022, the company used data on the state of the air in Kyiv from public control sensors for ratings.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in August 2022, Kyiv was ranked 21st in the ranking of cities with high levels of air pollution.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Kyiv, 85% of emissions are accounted for by transport, and private cars provide only 10% of passenger transportation.
