In Transcarpathia, in the Mukachevo district, Verkhovynskyi Wind Park LLC wants to install 30 wind turbines in the Nizhnyovoritsk Territorial Community.

Eco-activists of the "Save Pikuy" community on Facebook spoke against such construction, arguing their position with the negative impact of the wind farm on the ecosystems of 5 territories of the nature reserve fund, the Emerald network and the Verkhovyno-Vododilny ridge.

It is noted that the company received approval for the construction from the deputies of the Nizhnyovoritsk community. On the website of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, three Notices on planned activities regarding the construction of a wind farm have been published.

The message emphasized that the wind farm will be located outside the villages of Lotorka, Tyshiv and Bilasovytsia, while valuable land and agricultural land will be removed.

"The data from the Notice on Planned Activities are seriously alarming, because it contains negative consequences for the environment and significant risks for public safety. We are categorically against the construction of wind turbines next to nature reserves or on their territory, and the intentions to build the Vododilno-Verkhovyna Ridge are also negative. These are extremely valuable natural territories that provide services to the ecosystem," said Natalia Vishnevska, head of the "Save Pikuy" public organization.

The message emphasized that during the construction works, landslides, erosion, flooding, new access roads, digging, movement of heavy equipment, noise and electromagnetic load on the population and the environment are foreseen. The activity will affect the watercourse and affect the regime of the Latoritsa River. In addition, this area is seismically unstable.

According to eco-activists, the new wind farm will affect popular tourist routes, because it will be dangerous to climb the mountain past the wind farm in winter. It will also deprive local residents of the opportunity to collect berries on the slopes of the mountain, which is one of the few sources of income for villagers. In addition, it will violate the aesthetic aspect.

Wind energy is the most eco-friendly type of RES and has relatively low indicators of negative impact on the environment.

The head of the board of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association Andriy Konechenkov explained that during the generation of electricity, wind energy facilities do not emit any solid particles, greenhouse gases, metals and other pollutants into the atmosphere. He also debunked myths about noise pollution from wind turbines and their threat to birds and bats.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, ecoactivists in Transcarpathia opposed the transfer of the wind farm from Donetsk region.
