In Zakarpattia, the Security Service of Ukraine uncovered a multimillion-dollar criminal scheme for the mining of construction materials.

It is noted that the perpetrators sold raw materials to local entrepreneurs.

"At present, a number of environmental examinations have been completed. As part of the criminal proceedings, the law enforcement officers collected enough evidence to prosecute the persons involved in the crime," the press service said.

The director of the enterprise was notified of suspicion under Part 4 of Art. 240 (violation of the rules of protection or use of subsoil, illegal extraction of minerals) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The press service emphasized that the SSU employees worked on the case together with employees of the national police, the strategic investigations department under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office of the Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor's Office.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Transcarpathia, the SSU exposed an enterprise that illegally mined and sold minerals, namely andesite, worth UAH 270 million. The company is part of an Austrian construction concern, the shareholder of which is one of the Russian oligarchs.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Transcarpathia, eco-inspectors together with law enforcement officers exposed the illegal taking of sand and gravel mixture from the Tisza River in the village of Steblivka, Khust district.
