This step is justified in the extreme conditions of a full-scale war

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted the resolution "On amendments to appendix 1 to the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated December 13, 2017 No. 1010", which simplifies construction of overhead power lines and substations .

It removes the requirement for martial law conducting an environmental impact assessment (EIA) during the construction of overhead power lines with a voltage of 220 kV and above and substations with a voltage of 330 kV and above, the Ministry of Energy reports on Facebook.

The message noted that this will contribute to the most urgent and effective restoration of energy system facilities of Ukraine damaged or destroyed as a result of Russian military aggression.

"For the duration of martial law, we are withdrawing the requirement to carry out an environmental impact assessment for such facilities. This step is justified in the extreme conditions of a full-scale war that Russia is waging against Ukraine," the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal noted.

EIA is carried out before the start of any construction, reconstruction, expansion, dismantling, etc. It determines how this process will affect the environment.

As EcoPolitic reported before, the professional association of ecologists of Ukraine (PAEU) criticized part of the requirements of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources regarding obtaining permits and submitting reports for oil and gas production, in particular in the EIA procedure.
