From January 2023, every adult Ukrainian will be able to exchange 5 old incandescent lamps for 5 energy-saving LED lamps.
The program is designed to help energy companies in balancing the electricity system, because such a replacement will help the country save up to 1.5 gigawatts of electricity during peak hours, reports Ministry of Economy.
The message noted that the program will be implemented through Ukrposhta, and its mechanism will be simplified as much as possible. To take part in it, you only need to submit an application and exchange lamps at the Ukrposhta branch.
Yuliya Svyridenko, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, explained that in order to reduce the load on the energy infrastructure, it is necessary to implement various, in particular non-traditional, energy efficiency measures. After all, replacing 50 million LED bulbs will relieve the work of an entire reactor of a nuclear power plant.
"We will make the program long enough so that all citizens of Ukraine who want to replace light bulbs can take advantage of this opportunity," added Svyridenko.
The press service noted that the replacement of 30 million light bulbs will be financed by the European Union.
As Ecopolitic reported earlier, the chairman of the board of Ukrenergo Volodymyr Kudrytskyi said that saving electricity consumption even by 5% helps to balance power systems and reduce the number of forced outages.
