Critical raw materials are important for the implementation of the "green" and digital transition in the EU, and therefore for achieving climate neutrality

Head of the State Service of Geology and Subsoil of Ukraine Roman Opimakh and Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Jürgen Rigterink signed the Memorandum on the digitization of geological information and the development of IT architecture.

This will ensure convenient and equal access of investors to information about raw materials of Ukraine, in particular those critical for the green transition, reports Ministry of Environment.

In 2023, it is planned to digitize at least 20,000 units of geological information storage. In general, 53% of the paper fund, i.e. no less than 60,000 storage units of geological reports, will be transferred to the digital format.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal stated at the Raw Materials Week meeting in Brussels that Ukraine should become an integral part of the European Critical Raw Materials Act 2030. He was supported by Ukraine's European partners.

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, Ruslan Strilets, noted that critical raw materials are important for the implementation of the green and digital transition in the EU, and therefore for achieving climate neutrality.

"Ukraine is also on this path today," he said. – We emphasize that the reconstruction of Ukraine will be green and will take place in accordance with the best EU standards. So we are united by a common vision of development and a common goal."

During the panel discussion "Raw Materials Partnership with Ukraine", Strelets told European colleagues about:

  • steps taken by Ukraine to reform the subsoil use industry;
  • implementation of the Memorandum on strategic partnership between Ukraine and the EU in the field of raw materials;
  • inclusion of Ukraine in the implementation of the European strategy on critical raw materials until 2030.

According to him, the participation of Ukrainian experts in the development of the Raw Materials Act project opens up new opportunities for national mining companies. This will contribute to increased investment, creation of new jobs and economic growth.

As EcoPolitic reported before, in Ukraine the reform of subsoil use has begun, which is designed to transform the State Geology and Subsoil Service into a service institution, modernize the "rules of the game" and ensure effective control by the state.
