A warm winter will be a "real gift" in conditions of high cost of energy carriers

Deputy of the Kyiv City Council of the 8th convocation Kostyantyn Yalovy said that climate change can become a temporary ally of Ukraine.

According to forecasts, the European winter this year will be 1-1.5 degrees warmer than normal, with a small amount of snow, Yalovy wrote on his Facebook page.

He emphasized that global warming is a big problem for the planet, but in the winter of 2022-2023 it can become a real salvation both for Ukraine and for the whole of Europe.

"Now we all need a warm winter. Our task No. 1 is to survive the cold period in conditions of constant danger of being left without heating and electricity," Yalovy emphasized.

The deputy called the likely warm winter a "real gift" in the conditions of high cost of energy carriers.

"In times of struggle against Russia, which threatens to destroy not only our country, but also the entire planet, climate change can become our temporary ally. After all, the less gas needed by heating and power plants, the less dependence on the aggressor, which is one of the main suppliers of "blue fuel", he explained.

Yalovy also noted that after the joint victory over Russia, Ukraine should return to the "green" course, in particular to ecological fuel, the fight against climate change, and the restoration of the environment for the sake of a sustainable future.

"Now our main task is to defeat the enemy. Otherwise, there may be no future," he emphasized.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strilets said that Russian aggression caused 31 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions, which has harmed the climate.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, a large-scale leak of methane occurred in the Baltic Sea due to an explosion on the Nord Stream pipelines may cause a new climate catastrophe. According to preliminary German estimates, about 300,000 metric tons of methane were released into the atmosphere.
