In the next two or three days, rain and low air temperature will not contribute to the accumulation of harmful impurities in the surface layer of the atmosphere

In the air of Kyiv during the week from September 12 to 17, 2022, an excess of the average daily maximum permissible concentrations of nitrogen dioxide by 4 times and formaldehyde by 4.7 times was found.

Compared to the previous week, the content of pollutants in the air decreased, says the weekly report on air pollution from the Borys Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory.

According to the data of the observatory, the exceeding of the maximum permissible concentration (MPC) in terms of the average daily content of nitrogen dioxide was:

  • in 4.0 times – on the street Semena Sklyarenko on September 12;
  • 3.0-3.3 times – on Peremogy Avenue, St. Kaunaska on September 12, 15-17;
  • in 2.0-2.9 times – on the street Engineer Borodin, on Bessarabska and Demiivska squares, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, Obolonsky prospect;
  • 1.0-1.9 times – on all other posts;
  • no excesses were observed at 37 Nauky Ave. (in the area of the meteorological station).

Exceeding the MPC by average daily formaldehyde content:

  • 4.7 times – on Victory Square on September 15;
  • 3.0-3.2 times – on Bessarabska Square, Peremogy Avenue, Demiivska Square, St. Oleksandr Dovzhenka (Shulyavka metro area) on September 15-16;
  • 1.0-2.8 times on all other posts.

Other exceedances of MPC by average daily content:

  • of suspended solids – 1.0-1.1 times on Bessarabska and Peremoha squares, St. Kaunaska and Peremogy avenues (Sviatoshyn metro area);
  • of sulfur dioxide – at 1.0 on Bessarabska Square on September 7;
  • carbon monoxide – on Demiivska Square, Peremogy Avenue, Inzhener Borodin and Semen Sklyarenko streets.

Specialists of the observatory collected and analyzed 1,692 samples of atmospheric air at 16 stationary posts.

The material noted that according to the forecasts of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, the unstable weather that will be observed in the next two to three days (with rain and low air temperatures) will mostly not contribute to the accumulation of harmful impurities in the surface layer of the atmosphere.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, eco-inspectors calculated UAH 23.3 million in damages to the environment from the shelling by russian troops of the "Foxtrot" network in the village of Gorenka, Buchansky district, Kyiv region.
