The Kyiv City Council is being asked to ban grass mowing in the city, because it harms the environment and requires significant financial costs.

Appropriate petition registered on the Kyiv City Council portal.

So far, it has been supported by 1,390 citizens. In order for the petition to be considered by the Kyiv City Council, it is necessary to gather 6,000 signatures in 53 days, that is, another 4,610 signatures.

In the appeal, it was noted that similar initiatives have been created for many years. In them, activists provide facts about the damage to the environment from such actions.

"A big plea to look into this matter and make a logical decision that will not harm the environment, and will also free up a lot of money (since there will be no need to spend taxpayers' money on the fuel that is mercilessly burned by lawn mowers) and human resources for more important things for the city", informs the text of the petition.

Mowing the grass damages the root system of trees, pollutes the air, creates excessive noise and contributes to an increase in temperature.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that the British environmental protection organization Plantlife called on gardeners don't mow lawns for the preservation of wild flowers that provide nectar to bees.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, there are employees in the Uzhan National Nature Park in Zakarpattia they mowed down the cell of the red book late bloomer.
