In summer, the temperature inside a room with a green wall is 5 degrees lower on average

In Kyiv, the eco-initiative "City of Living Walls" is gaining momentum, as part of which vertical greening with the help of Vichy grapes takes place.

TV presenter Dmytro Komarov, who has already planted a sprout, joined the initiative, Oleksandr Vozniy, head of the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Kyiv City State Administration, reports on Facebook.

Vozny explained that living walls contribute to air purification. On such streets, the content of nitrogen dioxide is 40% lower, and suspended particles (dust) are 60% lower.

In addition, vegetation on buildings has a cooling effect both outside and inside the premises. In summer, the temperature inside a room with a green wall is on average 5 degrees lower than a similar room without such a wall.

Living walls help absorb rainwater and discharge sewage, and also reduce the noise level.

Vichy grapes are perfect for vertical landscaping in the Kyiv climate.

Advantages of Vichy grapes:

  • It grows quickly – the annual growth of shoots is 1-3 meters;
  • Does not destroy walls, because it clings to the surface with tendrils that stick to it;
  • Undemanding in care;
  • Inexpensive – the average price of a sprout is about UAH 80.

"I invite everyone to participate in vertical greening with the help of Vichy grapes. And, of course, post a photo with the hashtag City of Living Walls!”– urged Vozny.
