On Monday, July 18, the Verkhovna Rada ratified amendments to the Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context (Espoo Convention).

This will contribute to Ukraine's fulfillment of international obligations and purposeful movement towards the European Union, the head of the Ministry of Environment, Ruslan Strilets, reported on Facebook.

Presidential draft law No. 0154 was supported by 323 people's deputies.

"With this document, we supplement and expand the list of activities covered by the Convention, introduce monitoring and constant reporting on its implementation," the message says.

Strilets also noted that this once again confirms the seriousness of Ukraine's intentions to become part of the European Union and fulfill international obligations to the Council of Europe and the EU.

Also, on July 18, the Verkhovna Rada approved in the first reading the government bill No. 6477 about the national register of emissions and transfer of pollutants."

"Back in 2016, Ukraine ratified the Kyiv Protocol of the Aarhus Convention, confirming its readiness to conduct its environmental policy openly, interact with citizens and involve them in solving environmental issues. With the adoption of the draft law, we will be able to fulfill this condition and fully implement the Protocol on emission registers and transfer of pollutants," said Strilets.
