On Wednesday, July 13, the Eco Committee of the Verkhovna Rada unanimously supported draft Resolution No. 7504 on the establishment of a Special Environmental Monitoring Mission (SEMM) to record environmental damage caused by armed aggression on the territory of Ukraine.
It is reported Olena Kryvoruchkina, deputy head of the Committee on Environmental Policy, chief coordinator of the Operational Headquarters for Fixing Ecocrimes on Facebook.
The initiative envisages an appeal by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the UN General Assembly, the UN Environment Program, the European Parliament, the European Commission, parliaments and governments of states that are members of the UN General Assembly.
Kryvoruchkina explained that the formation of a special body for environmental monitoring under the auspices of international organizations will significantly strengthen Ukraine's position in the matter of holding the aggressor country accountable for all crimes and all the damage caused to nature.
She also expressed her hope that the people's deputies will support the initiative and that Bill No. 7504 will be voted on in the near future.
"After all, 55 colleagues have already signed my initiative even before it was introduced in the hall, so we expect full support in the hall of the Verkhovna Rada," Kryvoruchkina said.
