Forced migrants joined the action

On Wednesday, June 29, near the village of Kvasovo, Berehiv district (Zakarpattia region), several dozen people cleared the Tisza tributary, the Bozhava River, of debris.

The eco-action traditionally took place on the occasion of the Danube Day, which Ukraine celebrates every year together with the international community, informs press service Zakarpattian regional military administration.

Note that the Danube River has many tributaries and is one of the largest in Europe. Ecosystems in many countries, including Ukraine, depend on its conservation. After all, the Tisza, Prut, Siret and Lower Danube are parts of the river basin.

Therefore, on Danube Day, government officials, community organizations, activists, local residents and migrants carried out clean-up operations on the Borzava River, which flows into the Tisza. We chose a site where a restraining net is installed, which prevents the movement of garbage downstream.

Myroslav Biletskyi, the first deputy head of the regional military administration, said that household garbage and PET bottles were lifted from the water with the help of a truck crane and a homemade device. Everything was sorted there at once, packed in bags and taken out for further processing and utilization.

According to him, as a result of cleaning, 58 m of plastic, 5 m of glass, 10 m of wood, 3 m of municipal waste were collected.

Before EcoPolitic wrote about International Danube Day (World Danube Day), in particular interesting facts about the founding of the holiday and its mission, as well as directly about the Danube River itself.
