In Kyiv, they began to accept electronic waste, or e-waste, for safe disposal - all outdated equipment and accessories for it, including old chargers.
Waste can be brought in person, sent by new mail or ordered to be picked up at the address, the Waste Management Center (WSC) reports on Facebook.
The material emphasized that electronic waste is toxic and contains a large amount of hazardous substances, in particular copper, lead, mercury, cadmium, nickel, PBDEs and PCBs, which adversely affect health.
US experts have found that while e-waste makes up 2% of all waste in the country, it makes up 70% of all toxic waste. This type of waste is growing the fastest in the world and in 2021, the weight of e-waste amounted to more than 57 million tons.
How to hand over waste for disposal at the WSC:
- bring to the address: Kyiv, st. Colonel Shutov, 16 (factory "Analitpribor");
- send by mail (payment at the expense of the sender);
- order pickup at an address in Kyiv (relevant if you have accumulated a lot of waste, as well as for companies). When ordering the service, the company collects illiquid waste at no additional charge.

In order to reduce the amount of electronic waste, a single standard has been approved in Europe for chargers of all kinds of gadgets. So a full transition to USB Type-C should take place in 2024.
This will reduce the amount of e-waste in the EU by 11,000 tons per year, and will also save residents about €250 million per year.
“Even Apple has begun testing iPhone variants without a Lightning connector, which should replace USB Type-C. This should be the second charging port replacement in the history of the brand,” the material says.
Recall in Poltava ecobus until the end of June will collect batteries, thermometers and light bulbs.
As EcoPolitics reported earlier, a hazardous waste containers was built in Volyn'.
