On the morning of Tuesday, May 10, air quality in Kyiv deteriorated in three districts of the capital — Sviatoshynskyi, Obolonskyi and Podilskyi.
The smell of smoke and smoke in the city is associated with fires in forests and peatlands of Kyiv region, explained the mayor of the capital Vitaliy Klitschko in his telegram channel.
"This [deterioration of air quality] is due to the fact that fires are being eliminated in the ecosystems of Kyiv region. In particular, peat bogs are smoldering in Bucha district. Forest fires have also been located near several villages in the district", the mayor of Kyiv told.
According to Klitschko, firefighting is complicated by the fact that pyrotechnicians are involved in the work on the territory that was under Russian occupation.
The head of the capital called on Kyiv residents who saw smoke and / or smelled smoke in their area to close their windows tightly and not be on the street unnecessarily.
Before EcoPolitica wrote that in Kyiv after the mass evacuation of people in cars, environmentalists observed "extremely clean air", because, according to calculations, transport provides about 70-85% of all emissions into the city.
