It is important not only to restore the populations of endangered, vulnerable and rare species, but also to protect them

Residents of Volyn were warned that catching red-listed fish, 9 species of which are widespread in the region, involves the imposition of a fine of UAH 510-850 for citizens and UAH 850-1360 for officials with the confiscation of the catch.

The violator will also pay compensation for each such caught fish, the Volyn Fish Protection Patrol reports on Facebook.

Ichthyofauna is an important component of the overall biological diversity, as lampreys and fish play a key role in trophic chains and serve as perhaps the best indicators of the ecological state of water bodies. They react sensitively to the deterioration of living conditions or overfishing by reducing their numbers, ranges, partial or complete disappearance in water bodies.

That is why it is important not only to restore populations of endangered, vulnerable and rare species, but also to protect them.

The water bodies of the Volyn region are home to red-listed fish that have endangered and vulnerable nature conservation status.

Endangered species:

  • European eel;
  • Ukrainian lamprey;
  • lake minnow.

Vulnerable species:

  • golden crucian carp;
  • common fir;
  • common delirium;
  • ordinary elm
  • common mouth;
  • river minnow

The amount of compensation can be found in the resolution of the CMU of November 7, 2012 No. 1030 "On the amount of compensation for illegal extraction, destruction or damage to species of animal and plant life listed in the Red Book of Ukraine, as well as for the destruction or deterioration of their habitat (growth)" by link

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in the Zhytomyr region from August 1 to September 20, 2022, it is installed on all reservoirs ban on any crayfish fishing.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, poachers who were fishing in the Karkinit Bay were detained in the Kherson region, in particular red book sturgeons and friend
