Foresters continue to perform their primary tasks

The 2024 silvicultural campaign is underway in Ukraine. Foresters have already restored 9.7 thousand hectares and created more than 1.2 thousand hectares of new forests.

This was reported by the press service of the State Agency of Forest Resources on Facebook.

"9.7 thousand hectares of forests have already been restored out of the 22.9 thousand planned for the year. 1.2 thousand hectares of new forests have also been created. This year, we plan to create more than 9 thousand hectares of new forests," the agency said.

Foresters have already planted 73.8 million seedlings, the largest number of which were planted in Zhytomyr region – 15.4 million, Rivne region – 11.6 million, and Kyiv region – 9.1 million.

The State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine" planted more than 72 million seedlings. The rest were planted with the participation of other enterprises and institutions of the State Forestry Agency.

"Abandonment of monocultures is also a priority. We mainly plant mixed breeds. This creates conditions for biodiversity. The share of using seedlings with a closed root system is increasing significantly, as such plants have better survival and greater growth," the agency notes.

The State Forestry Agency plans to plant more than 205 million seedlings this year. For this, a sufficient amount of planting material has already been grown, which will meet the needs of the spring and autumn forestry campaigns.

"To create and grow high-quality productive forests is always the goal of foresters. That is why the seeds from which seedlings are grown are only of the highest quality, collected from special clone plantations," the organization says.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine" plans to plant 200 million seedlings in 2024 on log cabins, community lands transferred to the forest fund, and all free territories for afforestation.
