General Director of Ukrhydroenergo Ihor Syrota said that the company plans to start production of green hydrogen at DniproHPP in the first half of 2023.
Ukrhydroenergo expects to sign a contract with the German companies Andritz Hydro and MAN Energy Solutions in September 2022 regarding the delivery of an electrolyzer with a capacity of 1 MW, reports Energy reform.
He noted that Ukraine cooperates with German partners in hydrogen projects.
"We plan to sign a contract for the supply of a 1MW electrolyzer in September. They have a production period of 16 months, but we agreed that they will take someone else's turn and do it for us in 6-9 months. Therefore, if we sign the contract in September, then in in the first half of next year, we will be able to implement this project at Dnipro HPP," Syrota said.
According to him, this is a pilot project that the company will implement at its own expense, but its implementation will help attract investors for larger projects in the future.
"If we build at least 1 MW today, it will be much easier for us to talk to European donors. They will more quickly provide funds for both the design and implementation of projects. And we have the opportunity to implement hydrogen projects from 40 MW to 100 MW." explained the Syrota.
He also added, that in the conditions of russian aggression and energy blackmail, hydrogen development projects will be actively implemented.
"We must move together with the Europeans. We must not do in three or four years what will already be done in Europe," said Syrota.
