At present, 1.7 million m3 of wood has already been harvested and sold

The head of the State Forest Agency, Yuriy Blohovets, said that Ukrainian forests will not be thoughtlessly turned under the axe, because there is a sufficient wood resource.

Every year, about 40 million m3 of wood grows on 10 million hectares of forests in the country, and 5.5 million m3 is needed for the heating season, Bolochovets reports on Facebook.

Before a full-scale war, Ukraine consumed on average about 3.5 million m3.

“Today, one of the most difficult winters and heating seasons that we have experienced before is being announced. There is quite a significant stir in the firewood market. But we approached this issue in advance. I can assure you: there will be enough firewood for everyone," Bolochovets said.

At present, 1.7 million m3 has already been harvested and sold for the population, business and the social sphere.

He also said that the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources Ruslan Strelets instructed to create a single unified online store DrovaE. Such a platform will allow you to buy firewood online, order delivery and splitting. This will greatly simplify the process of buying firewood.

The online store should be launched before the start of the heating season.

The price of firewood varies depending on the region and depends on the cost of harvesting. On average, 1 m3 of firewood, which is located in the forest, costs about 1100 UAH. If necessary, the consumer additionally pays for the transportation and splitting of firewood.

“Friends, there are many speculators in the market. Therefore, I recommend buying firewood in forest areas. All contacts of responsible persons are published on the websites of the regional departments of forestry and hunting and forestry enterprises," Bolohovets said.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that Egor Grinyk, biologist at Ukrainian environmental group is sounding the alarm due to the increase in logging in forests, because corruption and the lack of reliable mechanisms for protecting old natural forests can lead to the loss of the most valuable natural treasures.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, in Transcarpathia, the leadership of the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve withdrew the approval of illegal sanitary logging century old beeches.
