Participants international conference of the Ramsar Convention (COP14), for the first time in 50 years of its existence, voted to limit the rights of Russia as a Contracting Party.

This unique case on the international arena in the field of environmental protection will help Ukraine to overcome the consequences of the military invasion, which affected the wetlands, writes the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strilets on Facebook.

He emphasized that this Resolution will help to find effective ways to overcome the consequences of the war within the Convention, to assess the damage, mitigate the impact, and find financial assistance for recovery.

  • USA;
  • the Czech Republic on behalf of the EU;
  • Georgia;
  • Canada;
  • Norway;
  • Great Britain;
  • France;
  • Albania;
  • New Zealand;
  • Japan;

"The Resolution states that 16 Ramsar sites in Ukraine are under direct threat, and 33% of national wetlands have been adversely affected by Russian aggression. And therefore, Russia's actions today override the mission of the Ramsar Convention," said Strilets.

He also emphasized that the countries that help to isolate the terrorist state are bringing Ukraine's victory over the Russian Federation closer.

Strilets also noted that during the negotiations, Ukraine decently defended and defended its interests, stressing that Russia violates the principles of international law and should not be on equal terms with other civilized countries.
