In Kryvyi Rih, environmental inspectors found large-scale pollution of the Skelevata River with water of unknown origin with a characteristic smell of sewage, causing damage worth over UAH 202.67 million.
This was the most high-profile violation of environmental legislation for the week of December 15-21, the State Environmental Inspectorate reports on Facebook.
It is noted that the inspection materials will be sent to law enforcement agencies.
The report emphasized that total losses for violations of environmental legislation amounted to UAH 203.2 million.
The press service said that during the week, environmental inspectors conducted 89 control measures aimed at protecting nature, rational use and reproduction of resources. During this time, they drew up 262 reports on administrative offenses and filed claims and lawsuits for UAH 1.36 million.
In addition, environmental violators were fined UAH 53 thousand over the week. During this time, UAH 1.77 million in damages were also compensated.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in November, residents of Kryvyi Rih complained about the periodic pollution of the Saksagan River by sewage effluents from a well in the Terniv district and the spread of an unpleasant smell near residential buildings.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, in December in Poltava, in the Yar microdistrict, one of the city's main sewage collectors collapsed, as a result of which a 200-meter-long sinkhole with sewage was formed.
