Air quality expected to deteriorate sharply in Kryvyi Rih: industry urged to respond

Residents are advised to limit their time outside during the day

Air quality is expected to deteriorate in Kryvyi Rih due to severe weather conditions, which has prompted industry to reduce emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere.

Such a reduction in emissions is one of the conditions for an emissions permit, according to the press service of the Kryvyi Rih City Council and its executive committee.

According to the city's Air Pollution Observation Laboratory, such weather conditions will last from the morning of Monday, March 11, to the morning of Tuesday, March 12.

"Please note that in accordance with Article 10 of the Law of Ukraine "On Atmospheric Air Protection", enterprises are obliged to implement organizational, economic, technical and other measures to ensure compliance with the requirements stipulated by environmental safety regulations in the field of atmospheric air protection, permits for pollutant emissions substances, etc.," the press service emphasized.

It is noted that during adverse weather conditions, harmful substances in the air do not disperse and accumulate in the surface layer of the atmosphere. This poses a threat to the health and well-being of people, especially those with chronic diseases. In particular, due to the effect on the nervous, immune and circulatory systems.

The press service advised citizens during the day:

  • limit being outside, refuse long walks;
  • refrain from physical exertion on the street;
  • close windows and doors tightly;
  • turn on air conditioning and air purification systems;
  • carry out wet cleaning and use air humidifiers;
  • do not smoke or drink alcohol;
  • increase liquid consumption to 2-3 liters per day, wash the nose and throat;
  • use fermented milk products, salted and alkaline water.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Kryvyi Rih in 2023, the air pollution index was 7.43, which is 15% lower than in 2022 (8.77) and 38% lower than in 2021 (12.13).
