The European law "On the restoration of nature" provides for the elimination of the loss of the crowns of urban trees

In Kharkiv, on Peremohy Avenue near a residential building, trees were crowned, i.e. their crowns were cut "to the trunk".

This was reported by environmental activist Artem Prykhodko on Facebook, emphasizing that utilities continue to systematically destroy trees.

As you know, a significant part of crowned trees dies within a few years, while the rest grows a new emergency crown.

Prikhodko emphasized that tree pruning is prohibited in winter.

Prykhodko said that he and other activists systematically tried to stop the barbaric destruction of trees, namely:

  • participated in a meeting with representatives of utility companies;
  • filed complaints with the State Environmental Inspection, but eco-inspectors did not see any violations;
  • submitted complaints to the central department of the State Inspectorate against the local.

"I tried 4 times to place a petition on the website of the city council about banning coronations. In vain, it is simply not accepted, he wrote, adding that other attempts to protect the trees also did not bring results. "Give the woodcutters square meters of wood and even break their foreheads – nothing will change."

Prykhodko emphasized that the situation can change thanks to the involvement of the public. After all, preserved trees will save people from the summer heat and clean the air from pollution.

"This is called landscaping and beautification, for which millions of funds from the city budget are allocated. And for people, lack of oxygen, lack of heat protection, lack of aesthetics," user Natalya Andriichenko commented.

The European Parliament adopted the law "On restoration of nature", which provides for elimination of the loss of city tree crowns and urban green spaces.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in March 2023 in Kharkiv on the embankment, the crowns of 18 out of 19 trees were completely cut off, turning them into trunks.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, Ukrainians were urged to join the saving of trees from crowning, or topping, during which all branches are cut from them, leaving only the trunk.
