One of the Mykolaiv city hospitals and one of the maternity hospitals in the frontline regional center have received solar power plants (SPP) and batteries for their uninterrupted operation.
This was reported by the NGO Ecoclub, which accompanied the installation of both SPPs.
The maternity hospital
The SPP installed there has a capacity of 72 kW. It is equipped with batteries with a capacity of almost 149 kWh. Thanks to solar generation, the facility can operate autonomously for at least 2 hours.
It is estimated that this SPP will produce 179,394 kWh of electricity annually. This volume will cover approximately 30% of the total annual demand of the institution.
The cost of the project was over UAH 6 million:
- almost 5 million was provided by the Yellowblue Force Foundation with financial support from Citi Ukraine;
- the community invested UAH 1.2 million in this project.
City hospital
The institution serves more than 800,000 residents of Mykolaiv and the region, including internally displaced persons, people affected by the hostilities, as well as residents of the de-occupied and frontline territories of Kherson, Ochakiv, and Snihurivka. The Ecoclub said that during the martial law period, the hospital had to work for 148 hours without electricity from the grid.
The solar power plant for this medical facility is slightly smaller in capacity – 55 kW. It works together with batteries with a capacity of 95.4 kWh.
Every year, this solar power plant will help save almost UAH 800 thousand, which will be used for other hospital needs.
The estimated cost of the project is over UAH 5 million:
- most of it was provided by the Yellowblue Force Foundation with financial support from the AlbaCare Foundation;
- the community's contribution amounted to UAH 556 thousand.

“The stations will save approximately UAH 1.3 million annually on electricity bills. And most importantly, it will allow the facility to operate even in the event of emergency power outages,” says Dmytro Sakaliuk, an expert at the NGO Ecoclub.
Recently, EcoPolitic has prepared an article about Ukrainian communities that install solar power plants for their municipal institutions. We described the investments required for this and how much can be saved thanks to the operation of these stations.
