A new solar power plant (SPP) was installed in Zhytomyr City Hospital No. 2. It will complement the first one, which was installed in 2023.
This was reported in the NGO "Ekoklub".
The capacity of the new SES is 105.3 kW. Together with it, the hospital was equipped with batteries with a capacity of 30.6 kWh. Together with diesel generators, they will allow the hospital to continue operating during power outages. The new SPP with batteries will be able to ensure the autonomous operation of the intensive care unit and the elevator.
The hospital received financing for the equipment of the second station through the project "Renewable energy sources for sustainable Ukraine". The cost of this SPP was more than UAH 3 million, UAH 500,000 of these funds are co-financing of the hospital.
According to calculations, the SPP will generate 92,730 kWh of electricity per year. If the tariff for electricity supply remains unchanged, the hospital will be able to save almost UAH 680,000 annually on this item of expenses.
The first solar power plant at the medical facility was installed in 2023. It has five times less power – only 20 kW. But the results of her work inspired the community so much that the officials decided to increase the capacity of the SPP. Prior to this, during power outages, the hospital building was powered by only two diesel generators with a capacity of 150 kW each.
"The expansion of our SES is an important step towards the energy independence of the hospital. It guarantees the safety of patients and medical staff, especially in critical moments when power outages can threaten people's lives," said Vladyslav Dubchak, deputy director for technical issues of the "Hospital No. 2" KP in Zhytomyr.
Earlier, EcoPolitic told that in one of the maternity hospitals in the Svyatoshyn district of the capital completed the installation of the solar power plant with a capacity of 120 kW.
We also informed that for the first half of 2024, the share of renewable energy sources in the energy balance of Ukraine grew up to 9.8%.
