Future generations will receive mutilated Ukrainian land

On Sunday, November 6, the world celebrated the International Day for the Prevention of Exploitation of the Environment during War and Armed Conflicts, which threaten the planet and future generations.

Ukraine's environment has suffered significant losses, some of which cannot be counted as environmental damages, and will never be the same as before February 24, 2022, reports State Inspection (SEI) on Telegram.

The message said that in 2001, the UN General Assembly, while making a decision to celebrate this day, defined the environmental damage caused by war as a threat not only to ecosystems and territories where military operations are conducted, but also causes negative consequences for the planet and future generations.

"No one more than twenty years ago could have thought that there would be a full-scale war in the center of Europe," said the SEI press service. – Russia destroys Ukraine's environment: mindlessly, irresponsibly, like a terrorist."

The eco-inspectors noted that currently, enormous damage has already been caused to Ukrainian nature. And every day they document new environmental crimes.

The message emphasized that not all damage can be translated into numbers, many ecosystems of Ukraine have been lost forever. Thus, the air is poisoned with dangerous substances, the soil and rivers are polluted, the land is littered with mines and shells, the seas are covered with the remains of oil products and ships.

"Unfortunately, future generations will receive mutilated Ukrainian land, which will certainly be restored after our victory, but will never be the same as it was before February 24, 2022," the press service emphasized. – We are sure that Russia should be responsible for crimes against the environment and crimes against future generations!"

As EcoPolitic reported before, a preliminary assessment of the impact of the war in Ukraine on the ecological situation showed that war is literally toxic, and future generations will live with a toxic legacy.
