In Volyn, officials from the water resources office were detained for fraud in the appropriation of bonuses and allowances of their subordinates, who managed to embezzle almost UAH 600,000 in two months.

This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine in Volyn Oblast on its Facebook page.

According to law enforcement officials, the head of the regional water resources office, together with the chief accountant and chief economist, set up a fraudulent scheme to demand and receive bribes from their employees. Every month, employees and the budget lost money due to the machinations of civil servants.

The officials calculated bonuses and allowances for their subordinates every month, but then blackmailed people to return these funds in cash.

During searches, Security Service employees also confiscated devices used by the perpetrators to coordinate their actions. These included communication devices, computer equipment, and documents related to payroll accounting and payments. Nearly one million hryvnia in cash was found and seized in the organizer's office.

Investigative actions are continuing to establish all the circumstances of the crime.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, the director general of a nature reserve in the Kyiv region will be tried for extorting a bribe of UAH 100,000. He faces 5 to 10 years in prison.
