Ukraine will apply to international courts for compensation from Russia for all damage to the ecosystem

The detonation of the dam by the Russian military of the North Crimean Canal in the Kherson region, which took place in late February 2022, caused damage to the environment of Ukraine in the amount of 2,642,945,760 hryvnias.

This was stated by Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Environmental Policy, Chief Coordinator of the Operational Headquarters for Fixing Eco-Crimes Elena Kryvoruchkina, according to a press release from the Operational Headquarters.

Such losses were calculated by the experts of the Operational Headquarters.

The material noted that the demolition of the dam causes significant damage to the environment of Ukraine every day.

"Ukraine will demand full compensation from the occupying country through international courts for the damage caused to the ecology of our country," Kryvoruchkina said.

She also stressed that the Operational Headquarters maintains a single register of environmental crimes in Russia, and experts make calculations on a case-by-case basis.

In the future, Ukraine will apply to international courts for compensation from Russia for all damage to the ecosystem.
