The offender pleaded guilty in court

In Odesa region, a court sentenced the former head of a collective enterprise to 5 years in prison (suspended) for granting an illegal permit for the discharge of oil products, which caused environmental damage worth UAH 23 million.

This was reported by the press service of the Main Department of the National Police of Ukraine in Odesa region.

According to the investigation, in 2024, the official in charge of the solid waste landfill in Safianivka community in Odesa region allowed the director of a transport company to dump liquid waste with a high content of oil products at the landfill.

Investigators added that between May and October 2024, the entrepreneur dumped oil products generated during the cleaning of ships in a commercial port at the landfill.

Upon completion of the pre-trial investigation and collection of evidence, investigators of the Odesa Region Police under the procedural supervision of the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office notified the defendant of charges under Article 236 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of environmental safety rules that led to grave consequences).
