A fish inspector from Odesa will be tried for systematic bribes that the man demanded for permits to catch fish in the waters of the Shabolat estuary during spawning.
He faces imprisonment for a term of up to 10 years with confiscation of property, the press service DBR reports.
Investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation completed the pre-trial investigation and sent the indictment to the court.
In the message, it was noted that employees of the DBR checked the information about illegal fishing in the Odesa region, which was disseminated to the mass media in May 2021, and found confirmation of it.
They documented how the chief inspector of the State Fisheries Agency of the Odesa region demanded a monthly "fee" from the fishermen. The man was detained by the SBI employees on June 17, 2021 while receiving a bribe.
"He is accused of obtaining an illegal benefit by an official (Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)," the press service noted.
Procedural management in criminal proceedings is carried out by the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office, operational support is provided by the SBU.
"The State Bureau of Investigation continues systematic work to combat crimes against the environment," the message emphasized.
