After the "big reboot" of the government, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine also got a new leader. Svitlana Vasylivna Grinchuk was appointed to this position.

EcoPolitic gathered information about the newly appointed head of the Ministry of Environment and her experience in this field.

Year of birth: 1985

Place of birth: the city of Chernivtsi.

Age: 38 years old.

Education: Graduated from the Chernivtsi Institute of Trade and Economics (Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics) – specialty of financial and economic profile. Candidate of economic sciences. In 2013, she defended her dissertation on the topic: "Development of mortgages in the agriculture of Ukraine."

Career:

  • 2016: headed the Department for Climate Change and Ozone Layer Protection at the Ministry of the Environment. She dealt with issues of ratification and implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement. Worked on ensuring Ukraine's fulfillment of international obligations under the Kyoto and Montreal Protocols.
  • 2019: was an adviser to the head of the government, advised him on issues of environmental protection and climate change.
  • 2020: worked as an adviser to the Minister of Finance on public grounds.
  • 2021: became one of the founders of the public organization "ESG Association Ukraine". Engaged in entrepreneurship in the field of public relations.
  • 2022: participated in international projects in the field of ecology and energy (GIZ, USAID). On July 29, she became the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine for European Integration.
  • 2023: On September 5, she assumed the position of Deputy Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko. She managed the Reform Support Office at the department. It is worth noting that in the United States Agency for International Development USAID highly appreciated the effectiveness of her work in implementing reforms in this position.
  • 2024: On September 5, she was appointed to the position of Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine.

Svitlana Grynchuk is an expert in the field of energy, climate change and environmental protection with experience in the Government of Ukraine (Secretariat of the CMU, Ministry of Environment), international financial institutions (World Bank), international technical assistance projects (GIZ, USAID) and participation in UN negotiations , Energy Community, OECD, etc.

As Ecopolitic reported earlier, September 5 Verkhovna Rada voted for the appointment of Svitlana Grynchuk to the position of Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine.
